Using speculative design, we have predicted a future in 2050 that places more value on the environment. We applied an environmental purification concept to make mobility a means of purification beyond a means of transportation, and users will think of moving as a process of purification. We have designed mobile interior design and a mobile app based on this concept.
Mobility is closely related to the technology, life, and values of our society. In order to design future mobility, we imagine the future of 2050 by predicting the future society based on statistics in various aspects such as technology, society, and economy. We used speculative design methodology to imagine the future society. Based on positive data, we have predicted a cleaner aand more developed future that values the environment the most.
*Speculative Design
Speculative design is a design methodology based on speculation. It is not simply imagination, but a way of looking for signals in the present to envision the future and then bringing those future scenarios back to the present to ask us questions again. In this project, we used speculative methods to envision the future based on predictive statistics of society and technology.
As people experienced rising sea levels and global boiling, awareness of the environment increased, resulting in a society where high environmental awareness and prioritization became paramount values.
Based on these predictions, we have applied the concept of "Bioremediation", which means self-cleaning, to mobility. Mobility has the meaning of purification that moves for the environment beyond a means of transportation. Under this concept, substances such as microorganisms decompose pollutants and turn them into harmless substances to the environment.
*Bioremediation
Bioremediation can be defined as any method that uses microorganisms, fungi, plants, or their enzymes to restore a polluted environment to its original state. In other words, it is the process of using living organisms to break down harmful substances into less toxic ones and clean up a polluted environment. (Mohee et al. 2012)
Bioremediation-inspired mobility interior design
The design employs a novel approach to raising awareness about green mobility. By depicting the car's movement as a breathing organism alongside a real-time display showcasing the air purification process, it creates a visually engaging experience that underscores the car's positive impact on the environment. This innovative visualization goes beyond mere data points, fostering a deeper understanding of how green mobility contributes to a cleaner and healthier world.
I imagined that it would be an experience that not only is fast, convenient, and comfortable, but also raises awareness of the environment.
Before leaving :
The app not only allows users to call a car, but also provides features that promote the importance of nature and the environment in the surrounding area.
The user can choose which route they want to take. They will choose the route that is better for the environment, even if it is not the fastest.
“
What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand
”
Interior design with microbioremediation concept(designed by Skylar, Stella)
-Know what they’re doing : By directly showing the state of being purified, it directly shows what role each microorganism is playing.
Know the importance of clean air
Users can check the air quality outside your route. If we don't pay attention to it continuously, we will soon forget it. By checking the air quality information, we recognize the importance of clean air.
Through speculative design, I freely explored future possibilities and envisioned ideas and designs without limits. I believe this project, which prioritizes environmental values, holds significance. Imagining a cleaner future, I considered mobility beyond transportation, incorporating purification devices and offering educational experiences to raise environmental awareness among users.
